Pier and Amanda's Sussex Winter Wedding at Queen's Hall, Cuckfield
Low Light Wedding
Winter is not too popular with weddings but if you are able to embrace the crisp weather it can be absolutely magical! When Pier and Amanda told me about the plans for their Sussex winter wedding at Queen's Hall, I was buzzing. The sound of elegant, ice cool decor, crystal chandeliers and abundance of candles just got me sold.
The couple tied the knot at the very picturesque Wivelsfield Parish church. The church dates back to Celtic times and some of the surrounding trees are apparently 1000 years old! All of that set in between green fields, blooming daffodils and views of the South Downs. Even Winter weather was sort of kind and even the rain held off the whole day!
Amanda arrived to the late afternoon ceremony in a stunning Austin Princess and was greeted by her Bridesmaids wearing very elegant blush dresses. Pier was already waiting! The ceremony was lovely and made very personal by Pier and Amanda’s children, Ella and Teddy, who did little readings. There was another reason to celebrate too! Bride’s parents renewed their vowes in commemoration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
The reception for this low light wedding was held in the heart of Cuckfield at Queen’s Hall. The Newlyweds arrived in style and parked in the High Street lined with beautiful 16th century houses. The venue served drinks and canapés that guests could enjoy listening to the relaxing music played by the harpist in the background. That definitely added that extra touch of magic to Pier and Amanda’s special day and made their entrance truly spectacular.
But the best was yet to come! After a while everyone was invited to come in to the main hall for dinner. And oh my god… it looked spectacular. The hall was decorated in white drapes, tables covered with candles not mentioning crystal chandeliers and up lighters adding the mood to the room. 'Ice and Candlelight' dinner was served!
The timeline of the day was rather tight with both planned events and light restrictions. When shooting a winter wedding you are really working up against the clock! Fortunately low light weddings is what I love! I treat them not as a challenge but as an opportunity to create something different, unique and dramatic! You can imagine how happy I was when I finally got a chance to grab Pier and Amanda for some night shots in Queen's Hall garden .
